Heavy rains wreak havoc in Maputo

Good afternoon. Amid a sustained campaign of raids and beheadings, the insurgents in Cabo Delgado appear to be trying out a new strategy in some parts of the province, peacefully buying supplies and assuring civilians they mean no harm.

TotalEnergies CEO Patrick Pouyanné told investors yesterday the security situation in Cabo Delgado is “OK”; however, he specified another important condition before his company gets back to work.

Much of Mozambique is suffering this week with heavy rain, but none more so than the capital and surrounding areas, with major roads cut off and much of Maputo city underwater. And the situation could still get worse, with experts warning that the Pequenos Libombos reservoir which supplies the city’s water is at its limit, and still receiving more water than it is discharging.
